Irish businessman Denis O'Brien has initiated new legal proceedings in the High Court in Dublin against Meta Platforms Ireland, the European operating headquarters for Facebook and Instagram. Court records show the fresh case was filed on September 3, 2026, with corporate law firm William Fry representing O'Brien in the action.

The specific grounds for the newly filed lawsuit have not yet been detailed in public court documentation. It remains unconfirmed whether the latest action is directly connected to or separate from earlier High Court litigation launched by O'Brien against Meta in 2024.

In July 2024, O'Brien filed court proceedings against Meta seeking orders to compel the tech company to disclose details about parties behind online advertisements that misused his name, image, and manipulated interview footage. O'Brien alleged that the unauthorized advertisements falsely portrayed him as endorsing cryptocurrency investments and financial schemes, claiming damages for alleged defamation, malicious falsehood, data protection breaches, and privacy violations.

Following disclosure orders granted during the 2024 proceedings, O'Brien's legal team subsequently added hundreds of additional defendants associated with the flagged advertising accounts. Meta has previously declined to comment on ongoing legal matters, and no official statement has been issued by either party regarding the grounds of the newly lodged case.
