Significant flooding has been reported across parts of Waterford and Carlow following a massive amount of overnight rainfall.

The flooding comes amid active Met Éireann weather warnings for heavy rain, which have been in place across the country to alert the public to potential hazards.

Local authorities and emergency services are monitoring the situation as the heavy downpours have led to accumulated water on several regional roads and in residential areas. Residents in the affected areas of Waterford and Carlow have been advised to exercise caution, particularly when travelling, due to the hazardous driving conditions created by the sudden accumulation of water.

Met Éireann had previously issued weather warnings forecasting intense spells of rain, warning of the risk of localized flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and poor visibility. The overnight rainfall has realized these risks in several southern and midland areas, with Waterford and Carlow experiencing some of the most notable impacts.
