Gardaí in south-east Dublin have seized 36 scrambler bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters alongside an estimated €137,800 in illicit drugs following a targeted six-week crackdown on vehicle-related crime and anti-social behavior. The intelligence-led initiative was conducted under Operation Meacán by officers in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) East between 10 August and 24 September. During the operation, officers executed search warrants across 14 premises and recovered €10,200 in cash. According to An Garda Síochána, 20 young people aged between 16 and 19 were arrested or identified in connection with various suspected criminal activities. Gardaí targeted a main youth gang and several individuals operating in areas including Loughlinstown, Kilbogget Park, and Honey Park in Dún Laoghaire, as well as Ballyogan and Leopardstown Valley near the M50. The drugs seized included cocaine, crack cocaine, and cannabis. Among the seizures was a single haul of cocaine weighing over one kilogramme with an estimated value of €100,000, which led to the arrest of one youth. Gardaí confirmed that legal proceedings or formal referrals to the Garda National Youth Diversion Bureau have commenced for all detected offences. Detected matters include seven alleged counts under the Misuse of Drugs Act for the sale and supply of drugs, four alleged counts of dangerous driving, two counts of property theft, two counts of trespass, two counts of criminal damage, and one count of robbery from the person. Operation Meacán was established across the Dublin Metropolitan Region to disrupt the misuse of scramblers, Sur-Ron e-bikes, and e-scooters used for street-level drug delivery, property crimes, and public safety hazards. Gardaí stated they remain committed to working with local communities to improve road safety and remove illegally operated vehicles from public spaces.
