A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle road collision on the N21 in County Limerick during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 AM on 20 September 2026 at Cummeen, near Adare, when a car struck a tree. An Garda Síochána confirmed that the male driver, aged in his 20s, was fatally injured in the impact. His body was subsequently removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Two male passengers were also removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick. One passenger, a man in his 20s, remains in a critical condition. The second passenger, described by gardaí as an adult teenager, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed following the collision to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene, with local traffic diversions established in the area.

Investigating gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward. Motorists who were travelling on the N21 at Cummeen between 2:15 AM and 2:45 AM on Sunday, particularly those who may have dash-cam or other camera footage, are asked to make it available to Henry Street Garda Station or through the Garda Confidential Line.
