An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on a viable suspicious device in Finglas, Dublin 11, following a security alert on Saturday evening.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of the discovery near North Way Estate Park. Officers established a cordon in the surrounding area and evacuated several nearby homes as a precaution.

The Defence Forces bomb disposal unit attended the scene after being alerted by gardaí. EOD specialists examined the device and safely executed a controlled detonation to render it safe.

Following the operation, the cordon was lifted and residents were permitted to return to their homes. Gardaí confirmed that no injuries were reported and no property damage occurred.

An Garda Síochána said that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
