Engineering firm Amey has secured an eight-year strategic framework contract with Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) to deliver major upgrades to signalling, electrification, and telecommunications infrastructure across Ireland’s national rail network. The agreement, valued at approximately €30 million, marks the company's first major direct contract with the State rail operator.

Under the single-party Signalling, Electrification, and Telecoms (SET) Implementation Partner framework, Amey will support Irish Rail on a project-by-project basis. The scope of work covers the complete project lifecycle, ranging from early-stage design, planning, and management through to equipment installation, testing, and final commissioning across nationwide rail lines.

Representatives from both organisations formally marked the agreement at Irish Rail's Inchicore Depot in Dublin. Tony Ennis, Chief Engineer for Signalling, Electrification and Telecoms at Irish Rail, stated that the framework provides access to specialist technical expertise required to modernise the railway system and support future passenger demand safely and efficiently.

Peter Anderson, Managing Director of Transport Infrastructure at Amey, described the appointment as a defining moment for the company's presence in Ireland, characterising it as the start of a long-term partnership to enhance national rail infrastructure.

The framework agreement follows Amey's recent expansion in Ireland's transport sector. On September 1, a joint venture between Amey and Keolis officially assumed responsibility for operating and maintaining Dublin's Luas light rail network under a separate multi-year contract.
